The Ohio Pet Fund is a fiscally responsible charitable group established in Ohio Revised Code, with a two-decade history of helping pets and their people. In 2025, we granted over 99% of the funds received from license plate sales in 2024 for spay-neuter. For the ten year period 2016-2025, total grants to organizations have exceeded the license plate income. We operate with low overhead and minimal bureaucracy because we have a dedicated, knowledgeable board of directors and advisors.

The Ohio Pet Fund provides spay-neuter grants for county animal shelters and 501c3 organizations. The funding is used for homeless cats and dogs for adoption, as well as community programs for spay/neuter of pets belonging to families below 150% of the federal poverty guidelines and/or veterans with service-connected disabilities.

There is an overwhelming need for better control of the stray dog and cat population in Ohio. Shelters are often over capacity and have difficulty finding the space to admit stray dogs and cats. "It is heartbreaking to be required to euthanize a healthy puppy wagging its tail just because there is no space," said one shelter employee. Spayed and neutered pets are more likely to be adopted and less likely to contribute to the problem of unwanted litters, property damage, dog bites, or animals running at large.

Grants listed below do not constitute an endorsement of said groups but indicate our shared passion for a home for every dog and cat! Note that some groups received more than one grant in 2025. We attempt to support every county, either directly with a grant, or indirectly by supporting surrounding nonprofits and mobile units.
